Special Education

We offer group classes as well as private lessons for children with special needs. Instructors work with the parent and child to work towards achieving specific goals, both physically and socially. Through learning and success, children build confidence and self-esteem.

About Our Director

Shannon Schafer has been teaching children with autism and children with various special needs for the past 10 years. Schafer's has been in existence for 22 years and being able to develop a program that she is passionate about has been and continues to be a joy for her.

She has worked very closely with teachers, parents and students from the Princeton Child Development Institute and The Eden Institute for many years as well as providing services to families and students throughout the Mercer County Area.

Programs & 2011-2012 Schedule

Placement Evaluation

We encourage you to schedule your child for a 1-on-1 evaluation to set goals and determine which program will be best for your child. The free evaluations are 15 minutes and you must call in advance to schedule an appointment.

Private Lessons (1:1)

Students will progress the fastest with a one-on-one lesson. The instructor will work on specific goals your child may have from his/her IEP or other therapies.

Special Needs Group Class With Parents (6:1)

Parents assist children and are led by a teacher to try new challenges and skills in gymnastics.

Transition Class (4:1)

Students go on their own with the teacher to learn gymnastics. Students must be able to stay with the class and follow directions without parental assistance.

Integration (8:1)

Children who are ready will be integrated into our regular gymnastics classes. He/she must be able to stay with the class and follow directions well.

Group Trips

We offer field trips for schools or clubs at our facility. You are welcome to come on a one-time basis, or to include us as a regular part of your yearly program.

Parent Workshop: "Special Education and the Law"

Hillary D. Freeman, Esq of Freeman Law Offices, LLC will be presenting on Sunday February 26, 11:00am-1:00pm. Hillary Freeman is deeply committed to her work representing people with disabilities and their families. She has presented workshops at Schafer's in the past and we welcome her expert advice again. Please RSVP if you would like to attend.

Team Schafer in Walk Now for Autism Speaks

Schafer Gymnastics will be providing a children's obstacle course and games on Sunday October 9 at Mercer County Community College. Team Schafer has raised money for autism awareness and research and will be participating in the walk at 2pm.

Summer Camp

Schafer's will be offering a summer camp for children with special needs in August, Monday-Thursday from 9:00-3:30pm.

Birthday Parties!

Saturdays and Sundays

We have several packages to choose from. The party includes obstacle course, pit, trampoline and time for cake! Parties are 75 minutes and include time for cake. Call to schedule your child's birthday party.
